El Cuartel was a building located across from Colmado Sosúa which housed the military in charge of protecting Sosúa and its people. The building also served as a starting point for marches in honor of Trujillo. Its location allowed for larger mass meetings, as it was next to Sosúa Park. The marching band often played for the Sosúans. Once, even a helicopter with military leaders landed on the esplanade in front of El Cuartel. Sosúa was involved in political affairs, especially when the settler Alfred Rosenzweig was a congressman during the Trujillo regime.
